PARIS, France – Aug. 24, 2026 – Verity Score has published its State of AI-Commerce benchmark and highlighted the availability of Verity Score – GEO / AEO, live on the Shopify App Store since June 3, 2026. The report assesses gaps in product data, policies, proof, and structured information that may affect how AI systems retrieve or interpret store information.
The benchmark aggregates 242 audits across 105 stores and reports an average readiness score of 33 out of 100. In the issue-analysis subset of 94 stores, incomplete Schema.org coverage was found in 94 of 94 stores (100%), while structured shipping information was missing in 71 of 94 stores (76%). The audited sample is primarily composed of French beauty and cosmetics stores. The findings describe that sample and should not be treated as representative of French, global, or overall Shopify commerce.
The publication comes as Shopify expands the infrastructure available to AI shopping agents. Shopify’s current developer documentation describes catalog interfaces that let agents search and retrieve product information across the Shopify ecosystem or within a single storefront. Verity Score focuses on the merchant-side question behind that infrastructure: whether a store exposes product facts, policies, proof, and structured data clearly enough for AI systems to retrieve and interpret them.
“AI does not read your design. It reads your code. The next decade of e-commerce belongs to merchants who make their stores legible and verifiable to machines, not just to humans,” said Kamil Kaderbay, co-founder and CEO of Verity Score.
From diagnosis to controlled fixes inside Shopify
Verity Score audits what AI and search systems can verify about a merchant’s products, pages, policies, and structured data. Its methodology evaluates GEO readiness, AI buyer readiness, and the relationship between marketing claims and on-site proof. Findings are cross-checked against structured data, rendered pages, and HTML source, then tied to the affected URL and a Shopify-specific recommendation.
Inside Shopify Admin, merchants can:
- See how ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude answer questions about their store;
- Identify buyer questions that product pages cannot yet answer;
- Preview proposed fixes, approve them before publication, and undo changes for 30 days;
- Create or improve articles and FAQs around demonstrated information gaps; and
- Track identifiable visits and orders associated with AI-assistant referral sources.
The free plan audits up to 25 products, giving merchants a practical entry point before they commit to a paid plan. Verity Score is available in English and French and works with Shopify Admin, Checkout, Google Search Console, and IndexNow.

An evidence-led view of GEO for commerce
Generative Engine Optimization, or GEO, is often discussed as a collection of speculative tactics. Verity Score takes a narrower position: strong SEO foundations still matter, and merchants should improve the product and policy information that AI systems can actually retrieve and verify. The company does not promise rankings, citations, traffic, conversions, revenue, or sales. Instead, it records the observed source, explains the gap, and lets the merchant decide whether to publish a fix.
The public benchmark follows the same approach. It publishes the sample size, methodology, segment limits, and issue-level denominators so merchants and agencies can evaluate the findings rather than rely on an unexplained score.
Shopify merchants can install the free Verity Score app and audit up to 25 products at https://apps.shopify.com/verity-score. The benchmark methodology and sample limitations are available at https://verityscore.io/en/state-of-ai-commerce/.
