llmtxt.info Reports 117 Valid llms.txt Files Across a Fixed 219-Site Panel
An independent tracker publishes dated implementation evidence and source-linked guidance for GEO and agentic commerce

NEW YORK, USA – August 24, 2026 – llmtxt.info, an independent documentation and measurement project covering the proposed llms.txt community convention, has published the latest weekly results from its fixed adoption panel. At the August 17 measurement, 117 of 218 measurable hosts served a valid file, representing 53.7% of the tested cohort. The full panel contains 219 notable websites across eight sectors; one host was not measurable in the latest run.

The tracker counts a file only when the website returns HTTP 200, serves plain text rather than an HTML application shell, and begins with a valid Markdown H1. The same checks run every week, allowing the directory to remove files that disappear or no longer meet the published validation rules.

That repeatable process is designed to make the headline figure auditable rather than anecdotal. Each weekly release keeps the cohort fixed, reports the measurable denominator separately, and publishes the date of the check. Visitors can review the underlying directory instead of relying on a one-time screenshot or an unqualified count.

Adoption varied sharply by sector. Developer tools and SaaS recorded nearly identical leading rates: 42 valid files among 61 tested developer-tool hosts, or 68.9%, and 33 among 48 SaaS hosts, or 68.8%. AI and machine-learning companies reached 20 of 36, or 55.6%. At the other end of the panel, media organizations recorded one valid file among 14 tested hosts, or 7.1%.

The remaining categories reinforced the uneven picture. E-commerce reached seven of 13 measurable hosts, or 53.8%; fintech reached eight of 16, or 50.0%. Documentation platforms recorded one valid file among seven hosts, or 14.3%, and the project’s other category reached five of 23, or 21.7%. These figures describe the panel at one dated check and should be read as a monitored benchmark, not as a forecast.

A measured cohort, not a claim about the whole web

llmtxt.info explicitly separates deployment from proven use. The panel is weighted toward technology companies and is not presented as a web-wide adoption estimate. A website serving llms.txt also does not prove that an AI system reads or relies on the file. The project documents the observable implementation layer without turning it into an unsupported claim about search rankings or model behavior.

“Publishing an llms.txt file is straightforward to observe; proving that an AI system actually uses it is much harder,” said the llmtxt.info editorial team. “Our tracker separates those two questions. It measures deployment while preserving the limits of what the public evidence can support.”

A verified directory and free implementation tools

The accompanying verified llms.txt directory listed 117 live examples at the August 17 check. Across those files, the median size was 14,179 bytes, the median document contained seven H2 sections, and the median file linked to 75 resources. The directory also includes annotated examples and a public path for submitting additional implementations for review.

In addition to the tracker, llmtxt.info provides a free generator and validator that work without an account, plus a reference library covering llms.txt implementation, GEO, AI crawlers, and the boundary between static discovery and live commerce capabilities. Its Shopify guidance explains why llms.txt cannot substitute for product feeds, catalog APIs, WebMCP, current inventory, or checkout state. Its editorial and educational material is available in English and French, with core pages also published in German, Spanish, and Italian. Every factual article is designed to show its sources, update date, and relevant limitations.

The project is intended for developers, technical writers, product teams, SEO and GEO practitioners, and organizations evaluating whether to publish or maintain an llms.txt file. Readers can inspect the latest measurements, review production examples, or test a file directly on the website.

About llmtxt.info

llmtxt.info is an independent documentation and measurement project focused on llms.txt, a proposed community convention rather than a formal web standard. The project is not the creator or official governing body of llms.txt. It combines sourced explainers, a weekly verified directory, an adoption tracker, and free implementation tools. The editorial approach distinguishes measured deployment from unverified claims about AI-system behavior, search visibility, or ranking effects.
