JACKSONVILLE, FL / ACCESS Newswire / September 9, 2026 / A $10,000 scholarship program from Priority Tire is putting the spotlight on one of the most overlooked dangers for new drivers: blind spots. As part of The Safe Roads, Strong Futures Scholarship, applicants can choose to explore why blind spots still catch new drivers off guard, and what it actually takes to check them correctly.

Blind spots remain a leading cause of preventable accidents among new drivers, many of whom rely on mirrors alone without realizing how much they miss. Priority Tire wants students to close that gap and explore better habits behind the wheel.

“Mirrors only tell part of the story,” said Dimitri Chernyak, President of Priority Tire. “We’re asking students to look at why so many drivers still get this wrong, and what it would take to change that. It’s a small habit that could make a real difference in how many accidents happen on the road.”

Priority Tire will award a total of $10,000 across three winners:

  • First place: $5,000

  • Second place: $3,000

  • Third place: $2,000

Even a properly adjusted mirror setup leaves a zone on each side of the vehicle unaccounted for. Add distractions like phones, passengers, or unfamiliar roads, and the odds of a new driver skipping that final check increase. Priority Tire is looking for essays that go beyond the basics, pairing real research with practical insight into how these accidents happen and what can prevent them.

Submissions should be 500 – 700 words and must be written entirely by the applicant. The submissions are evaluated based on originality, clarity, and analysis. Students have until December 1, 2026, to submit their applications digitally through the Priority Tire Scholarship page. Additional topics are available to students interested in earning scholarship funding through other road safety challenges.
